Millcreek Township Schools
The Millcreek Township School District is a school district that is proud of its long and rich heritage beginning in 1805 in a one-room school house where a well paid teacher might earn $15 a month and the school term was from November to March.
Today, education takes place in state-of-the-art surroundings for approximately 7,500 students. There are seven elementary schools, three middle schools, one intermediate high school, one high school and one alternative high school. In addition to classrooms, each school provides areas for community access, physical activities, library and science research, and the arts.
A nine-member board elected to four-year terms governs the school district. A Superintendent, Business Manager, Supervisor of Personnel and Improvement, Supervisor of Curriculum, and Supervisor of Special Education direct the central office staff. All administrative personnel and principals hold full-time positions.
Transportation is contracted through First Student Transportation Services.
The district provides programs for those needing assistance in the areas of life skills, instructional support, emotional, physical, autistic, speech and language and hearing. There are student assistance programs for students at risk. Students in grades K-12 can participate in a Schoolwide Enrichment Program, and those at the 6-12 grade levels attend honors classes.
There are several extracurricular activities and sports offered at the middle school level. The high schools offer varsity sports, junior varsity sports and freshman programs in addition to over 50 clubs and activities. Commencement awards and scholarships offered to the 2000 graduation class totaled $5,352,675.
Millcreek Schools both involve and contribute to the community. Over 300 individuals sit on the district’s advisory councils. Many more people volunteer time and effort in the classroom. The high school offers adult education classes in academic subjects, computer training, life skills, and hobbies.
The school district has developed partnerships with over 30 local and national organizations including businesses, colleges, banks, service organizations, and retailers.
