Electronic and Household Hazardous Waste

New rules for disposing of electronic devices took effect on January 24, 2013 that prohibited consumers from throwing away laptops, computers, monitors, televisions, and other electronics in with their trash.  Under the state Covered Device Recycling Act of 2010, waste haulers will no longer be able to take these items with residential curbside trash and will leave at the curbside if placed out.  Electronics not only have a limited useful lifespan, but also contain heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury that should not be sent to our landfills.  Millcreek Township is able to offer its residents a program for recycling such items through Advanced Disposal Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Special Collection Program.

Advanced Disposal Household Hazardous Waste and Electronic Special Collection Program

  1. To participate, you must contact the Call Center at 1-844-415-5970 to set up a collection appointment.  You will be asked several questions, including your address and the type/amount of materials available for collection.  You will then be provided with a convenient collection date several weeks out.  A kit (one 33-gallon plastic bag, plastic cable tie, survey card, and labels for unlabeled containers) will be sent to your home for you to gather and pack your materials.
  2.  Preparing for collection.  The HHW kit includes an instruction sheet for placing some materials inside the bag, while other bulky items may be left outside the kit.
  3. HHW material is collected. On the scheduled date, the driver will collect and sort the materials right in front of your home! A prepaid survey card should be completed and mailed back to the Millcreek Recycling Coordinator.
  4. You have more material than will fit into the kit? Don't worry, this service is year round.  Just schedule another collection!
