Streets in Fall
As the leaves begin to fall and the weather turns cold, we at the Streets Department start to prepare for the WET season. The leaves tend to migrate toward any open pipe or catch basin to try and plug them solid so water is blocked from exiting your yards and our streets. Though we have three backhoe diggers that we use for cleaning ditches and we send crews out to open catch basins, sometimes we can not keep up. It would help if the neighborhood would monitor these areas and assist if possible. If anyone could take five minutes to take a shovel or a rake and clean the leaves off a catch basin or in front of a pipe it would help the whole area. You would also be helping yourself from a possible flooded front yard or worse, flooded basement.
Trucks and Plows and Salt, Oh My!
Now is the time we also make ready for the white fluffy stuff. We all love it. Right?.... Ok so maybe not.
In our endeavor to maintain perfect driving conditions we need equipment. This is the time of year we make sure this equipment is in proper working order. Our mechanics and welding shop personal inspect and repair any defects in the plows and trucks. They must replace worn blades, bolts and pins. They must at times re-fabricate the push arms and other parts of the plows.
