Millcreek Police Receive Gun Violence Intervention & Prevention Grant
MILLCREEK, P.A – During the Jan. 24 supervisor meeting, the Millcreek Township Supervisors unanimously voted to accept funds the MPD was awarded through the Gun Violence Intervention & Prevention grant. The Millcreek Police Department received the grant of $560,387 from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to prepare for and to combat gun violence.
“This grant proactively makes our community more secure,” said Police Chief Mook. “Preparing for and preventing gun violence before it happens is crucial, now more than ever.”
With the grant the MPD plans to hire an additional detective and to cover overtime costs of increased patrols. Added patrols will be active during prior periods of high call volumes. The new detectives sole focus will be gun violence investigations. These changes support the PCCD’s recommendations on preventing gun violence in communities.
The grant comes from the hard work of Cpl. Graeme Perkins who also took a primary role in writing the COAST Grant to provide the MPD with a mental health professional. Cpl. Graeme Perkins is the project director of the Millcreek Township Gun Violence Initiative.
The PCCD is assisting communities across the Commonwealth with a stated mission to, “enhance the quality, coordination, and planning within the criminal and juvenile justice systems, to facilitate the delivery of services to victims of crime, and to increase the safety of our communities.”
