MILLCREEK FIRE RESPONDS TO LATE NIGHT STRUCTURE FIRE

For Immediate Release: August 19, 2023

MILLCREEK, Pa., Aug. 17, 2023 – In the early hours of Aug. 17, at approximately 12:30 a.m., the Millcreek Township Fire Department responded swiftly to a fire incident at the building of the Great Lakes Institute of Technology located at 5100 Peach St. This event marks another successful operation that showcases the dedication and professionalism of the firefighters.

Fire crews were immediately dispatched upon receiving the initial emergency call. The Millcreek Township Fire Department conducted a scene size-up and a complete 360-degree survey of the building. Findings revealed heavy smoke throughout the structure, prompting a rapid escalation of the incident to a confirmed structure fire. Subsequently, a second alarm was activated to ensure a comprehensive response.

The building was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Firefighters swiftly entered the building, discovering a fire originating from a clothes dryer. The quick response of the fire sprinkler system effectively contained the fire within the room and its contents, preventing its spread. However, there was extensive smoke and water damage throughout the property.

The dedicated firefighters worked diligently to shut down the fire sprinkler system. They also conducted salvage and overhaul operations with the objective of mitigating further property damage. Fire cleanup and ventilation were carried out meticulously. The determined efforts of the firefighting teams persisted until after 3:30 a.m., underscoring their commitment to preserving life and property.

"I am immensely proud of our firefighters' rapid and effective response to yet another fire incident," Chief Michael Cliff of the Millcreek Township Fire Department stated, "their training, coordination, and bravery are evident in their ability to contain the fire and minimize potential damage."

Despite the challenging circumstances, the incident concluded without any reported injuries to the firefighting personnel. The safety of both residents and firefighters remains the foremost priority for the Millcreek Township Fire Department.

The Millcreek Township Fire Department extends gratitude to the community for its unwavering support. All commercial business owners and managers are encouraged to ensure the presence of rapid access key systems, such as Knox, on their properties. These devices facilitate firefighter access during emergencies, expediting their response and enhancing safety.
