MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP PARTICIPATES IN WORLDWIDE CLEANUP EVENT
For Immediate Release: September 19, 2023
MILLCREEK, PA – Millcreek Township participated in the International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) on Sep. 16, 2023. Over 200 pounds of litter were removed from Walnut Creek and the surrounding Bridger Park by 18 volunteers.
“We’re happy with the litter pickup at Bridger Park as part of International Coastal Cleanup 2023,” said Community Relations and Sustainability Director Jessica Stutzman, “Every cleanup, even in the smallest waterways, makes an impact in not only the water in the Millcreek community, but countless other communities.”
In Millcreek, Walnut Creek flows through Bridger Park, which drains into Lake Erie. From there, Lake Erie flows into Lake Ontario via Niagara Falls and drains through the St. Lawrence River into the Atlantic Ocean. Walnut Creek is part of the global water system.
The Internal Coastal Cleanup is hosted annually by the Ocean Conservancy group. 2,797 tons of waste were cleaned globally in 2021 according to Ocean Conservancy. Last year, Millcreek cleaned over 500 pounds of litter.
Millcreek Township asks any parties interested in volunteering for ICC 2024 to contact Millcreek Township at 814-833-1111. We thank all the volunteers that spent their Saturday morning at Bridger Park.
