Millcreek Township Hiring Animal Resource Officer

MILLCREEK, PA – Millcreek Township is hiring a new Animal Resource Officer (ARO). The position will be a positive presence in the community with a focus on training, knowledge, and the welfare of animals in their care.

“We have taken our time on reworking this vital position,” said Millcreek Township Supervisor Kim Clear, “we are reimagining what responsible animal stewardship looks like in Millcreek Township.”
Several essential functions of the Animal Resource Officer job include, but are not limited to:
• Educating the public on and enforcing township ordinances and state laws that relate to dog and animal control.
• Humanely handling, capturing, restraining, confining, and transporting domestic and stray animals using proper humane equipment, methods, and techniques.
• Patrolling the township for stray or injured animals; transporting animals to agency, shelter, or veterinarian, as appropriate; Taking possession of animals that show neglect, inhumane treatment, disease, or malnutrition: Mediating and helping to resolve conflicts between parties involving animal control issues.
In terms of background, the township is looking for individuals that can make effective decisions in stressful situations. Additionally, applicants must enjoy working with people and animals. Preference will be given to persons possessing certified animal care training, or to those who can obtain it within the specified time frame.
